"We can change our thinking AND change our economic system, y'all." Beautifully put and thank you not only for that salient point but for the class critique you bring to New Thought, which I feel too. Many academics, journalists, denizens of lettered culture, and even a large number of activists who would label New Thought woo-woo nonsense are often as unaware of their lineal and class biases as a fish is of swimming in water. People who would change our economic system to a more equitable one will never get there by disparaging the very literature embraced by many of the wage-earning people whose interests they believe they understand. I've written about this in The Miracle Club, One Simple Idea, and Daydream Believer. New Thought is riven with serious flaws and I've attempted to pinpoint some of them--but this metaphysical movement is a also a great source of encouragement and possibility to working people (as it is to me) who are capable of making up their own minds about its merits; and, as you allude, simultaneously pursuing ideals of labor rights and economic reforms. Your comments mesh with the ideals of the movement's founders. Bravo, -M-
