In its article of June 27, 1900, "Leaves the Methodists," The Fort Wayne Evening Sentinel reported: "Rev. W.D. Wattles, who recently resigned the pastorate at the Methodist Episcopal Church at North Judson, has withdrawn his affiliation with that faith and has joined the Friends' denomination. He will be authorized by that church to work as an evangelist and this state will be the scene of his labors."
