I see your point, though I have these considerations: Very often when pursuing a free-form style of search, you’re going to get called New Age anyway. So, there is something to be said for reclaiming the term rather than ceding it as a epithet to which one has to answer, sooner or later. Rather like President Obama eventually using the term Obamacare. As the socialist activist Michael Harrington once said in response to why he continued to use the sullied term socialism: “Because it’s the truth, and all we have is the truth.” I don’t think critics will ever be converted but we on the path should be able to talk to one another as we please.
