After many years on the spiritual path I’ve grown suspicious of terms like “service,” which accrue virtue to the user but are often wielded with subtle judgment, as you do here. If a person behaves in a generative and productive way, acting with reciprocity and transparency, that seems to me “service” enough, and a measurable benefit to others. Conversely, many self-proclaimed spiritual people, who provide few such benefits, conceal selfishness or fecklessness behind tributes to service.
